We can note that the 50mm nikkor on f/1.4 is already good. Sharp is the same as the Nikkor 50mm 1.8 on f2 almost f2.2 !

The 50 1.8 is very slackness whereas the 50 1.4 is already very good. (Out Of focus ? I purposely took the photo with a certain angle even if there were a shift of focus, it is forcing good some share on the wall, therefore by taking the image full size (just by a click) it is very easy to see that the 50 1.8 is less sharper that the 1.4)

On f/2 the 50mm 1.8 is a little bit shaper but the 1.4 is more an more sharper...

f/2.8 the 50 1.4 is on its max sharpen that's why it is an very luminous lens because a classic lens which begin on f2.8 will be on its worst sharpen.
